In this instance, the cyber invaders took down the video servers for the manufacturer’s North American sites, completely severing the network connections. These servers were central to the organization’s video and security reporting. With millions of dollars of inventory at stake – not to mention the confidential information of customers and suppliers, there was no time to waste in bringing all the manufacturer’s security systems into full operation. 

Rising to the Crisis

The first step for Care Security Systems and the manufacturer was to take a close look at what had been hacked and what types of information may have been compromised. The second step was to review pre-arranged protocols. Just like companies prep for a crisis communications event – a natural disaster or a product recall – the manufacturer and Care Security Systems had developed guidelines to react in the face of a security event.
