Case Study Detail

California is undoubtedly one of the car capitals in the nation. In 2016 alone, there were approximately 14.5 million automobiles registered in California. Which makes it natural for one of the largest vehicle manufacturers, which operates in 17 countries on five continents and distributes vehicles all over the world, to choose the equally impressive Port of Los Angeles area to develop one of its key vehicle processing centers (VPC).

The brand sold a record 2.4 million cars in 2017, so investing in where it carries out final quality inspections and accessory installations was a priority. In 2015, the manufacturer opened its West Coast Campus, an impressive facility that spans more than a million square feet on 52.2 acres adjacent to Long Beach airport which was formerly the historic Douglas aircraft factory. In addition to the Vehicle Preparation Center, this facility also houses the Western Region Office and the vehicle manufacturer’s Academy.

The vehicle preparation center serves as the first stop – after U.S. Customs – for new vehicles that are destined for dealerships throughout the U.S. The facilities inspect and prepare vehicles for sale. The center also is capable of accessory installation, full body shop preparation and detailing.

Given such a large volume of high-value assets, not to mention a location close to the Port, securing the Los Angeles VPC was of top importance. Which is why the vehicle manufacturer turned to the experienced team at Care Security Systems to design a comprehensive security solution.

Spearheading Innovative Security

Innovation, performance, design and safety are the core values of the vehicle manufacturer – as well as those of Care Security Systems. Because Care Security Systems had installed comprehensive security solutions for the manufacturer’s Baltimore VPC, Georgia Parts Distribution Center and other key installations, the company was confident that Care Security Systems to handle any type of challenge.

Just like at its Baltimore VPC facility, the manufacturer’s dispatcher at every VPC and plant marshalling yard sends drivers out to bring the required vehicles to the trucking carriers, which prevents carriers having to enter the yard to find them.

“We installed wireless transponders in the valet drivers’ vehicles,” says Jon Kron, Care Security Systems project manager. “We also installed access control points to make it seamless for authorized drivers to pass through the security gates.”

At the cornerstone of every Care Security Systems project is taking care of all the details to avoid disruption of existing operations.

Taking a Hands-On Approach

In addition to overseeing the Los Angeles VPC security solution, Care Security Solutions spent several days onsite with the vehicle manufacturer’s team to physically inspect the large West Coast Campus, discuss any needed tweaks in the security solution, as well as forecast needs for the coming years.

“We partner with our customers closely and we take the extra effort to personally visit each location to check up on their security solution to see if any things have changed,” says Renee Schwab. Care Security Systems’ Chief Executive Officer. “We’re not in the business of just selling a solution and then moving on to the next like many other security services. We’re in it for the long term.”

Care Security Systems has also installed similar security in its Baltimore VPC, as well as security solutions in the vehicle manufacturer’s locations throughout the United States.
